Formed in New York in 1996, Fountains of Wayne took its name from an iconic garden store in nearby Wayne, NJ (which, sadly, closed recently). Songs like 'The Summer Place' and 'Richie And Ruben' showcase the band's renowned storytelling abilities and flair for creating memorable characters elsewhere, they take a more impressionistic approach, as in the shimmering 'Someone's Gonna Break Your Heart' and the elegiac 'Cemetery Guns' (a lyric from which provides the album's title). Pristine power pop instrumentation and quirky story songs are still the primary attractions, while the guys employ many of the same. The good news is that lovers of earlier Fountains of Wayne releases should feel largely at home with Sky Full of Holes. CENTURIES 2732 758 CITIZENS 2733 758 FORMED 2734 756 HOLE 2735 756 NARROW.
